Copenhagen to Hamburg — the international run

Hamburg is the closest major German city to Copenhagen — 290 kilometres south, about 3 hours 15 minutes by road, including the Fehmarn Belt ferry crossing. It is the most popular international route from Copenhagen. For business clients going down for a meeting, families heading to a holiday on the German Baltic coast, or anyone who would rather not deal with the airport on both ends for a short flight, the chauffeur option is a genuinely competitive alternative.

The route and the ferry

From central Copenhagen, the route runs south on the E47 through Zealand, crosses the Storebælt-southern alternative through Lolland, and reaches the Rødby ferry terminal. The Scandlines ferry to Puttgarden in Germany takes 45 minutes — long enough for a proper coffee, short enough not to break the rhythm of the trip. From Puttgarden, the A1 motorway runs the rest of the way to Hamburg. The new Fehmarn Belt fixed link tunnel will eventually replace the ferry; until it opens, the crossing is a built-in break in the drive.

Why drive instead of fly

SAS and Lufthansa both fly Copenhagen-Hamburg in about an hour. With airport check-in, security, boarding, and transfers at both ends, the door-to-door is typically four to five hours. Our chauffeur drive is three and a quarter hours — and you do it in your own cabin with luggage you do not check, no security queues, and the option to work or sleep without anyone interrupting. For two or three passengers sharing, the per-person price is competitive with airfare.

Common Hamburg destinations

Central Hamburg hotels and business addresses (HafenCity, Speicherstadt, Neustadt). Hamburg Airport for connecting flights (saves the airport-to-city transfer at the German end). The Reeperbahn entertainment district for evening events. The Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg as a side stop if needed. The route is straightforward and well-trafficked.

What is included

Fixed price from €399. Storebælt toll and the Fehmarn Belt ferry crossing for the vehicle and all passengers — all included. Door-to-door. Wi-Fi and charging for the working portion of the trip. S-Class or V-Class is the right choice for a three-hour-plus drive.
