Helsingør sits 60 kilometres north of Copenhagen Airport, at the narrowest point of the Øresund where Denmark and Sweden are visibly close enough to swim between. For tourists arriving at CPH and heading straight to a Kronborg visit, the ferry to Sweden, or a hotel on the Strandvej, the direct airport-to-Helsingør transfer is cleaner than the alternative of going into Copenhagen first.
From CPH arrivals, the route uses the Øresundsmotorvejen north onto the Helsingørmotorvejen (E47) and runs straight up the east coast of Zealand. The journey is about 50 minutes outside rush hour. The coastal alternative on the Strandvej (Route 152) takes about 75 minutes and passes through Vedbæk, Rungsted, and Humlebæk — worth choosing on a clear day if you have time and want the harbour-town string.
Tourists visiting Kronborg Castle (Shakespeare’s Elsinore) as a day stop before continuing to Copenhagen. Travellers crossing the ferry to Helsingborg in Sweden (the ferry leaves every fifteen minutes from the harbour next to the castle). Visitors heading directly to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art on the way, or to one of the seaside hotels around Snekkersten and Humlebæk.
